Littleton Boulevard Needs Crosswalks

Dear City of Littleton,

The opening of Littleton Brewing Company (LBC) has brought increased foot traffic, highlighting a serious safety issue: the lack of safe crossings here on Littleton Boulevard. We urge the City of Littleton to implement a quick-build pedestrian crossing near Gallup and Foresthill streets.

The nearest safe crossings are 700 feet away, meaning people must walk a quarter mile to safely cross the street. According to the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), it only takes a 40-second delay before people instead choose to cross unsafely. For years, people have been darting across Littleton Boulevard in this area, and with more foot traffic this dangerous behavior will only increase.

We believe Littleton Boulevard’s popularity will continue to grow alongside its businesses, so investing in safer crossings should be a priority. Quick, affordable safety improvements can be made to better connect people to businesses and ensure public safety.

We at Vibrant Littleton applaud the city’s prioritizing of Safer Streets. And though there is a Littleton Blvd Sub-Area Plan in the works, safer crossings near LBC can’t afford to wait for lengthy studies or uncertain long-term plans. Residents and visitors need a safe way to cross the street at this location now.

Sincerely,
Littleton Social Cycle
